Reading List (Brothers and Sisters)

Just finished reading "Love Will Tear Us Apart" after reading an interview with the author on my friend's blog. Siamese twin sisters about to turn 18 have been Britney-style pop stars most of their lives. A jaded NYC journalist gets the assignment to write a book about the girls.

I rushed to read this book because it reminds me of a script I once read. "Brothers of the Head" is about Siamese twin brothers who begin life in a carnival, are exploited by various managers and promoters, and wind up becoming a punk band in early-1980s Los Angeles. The story is told from different perspectives, sort of like "Citizen Kane." I always remembered the script, thinking "it's brilliant, but no one will ever make it." A movie was finally produced in 2005, the setting changed to 1970s England:

A YouTube comment - "this film broke my heart, but the brothers were hot and the music was awesome"

The "Head" refers to a 3rd head on one of the brother's shoulders. It's a 3rd brother, who may or may not be alive. In "Love Will Tear Us Apart," the Sparks sisters discover a long-lost half-sister. There are many other similiarities - and by pointing them out, I mean no disrespect to the book. It's a great read, especially for Gen-Xer's like me who are alternately facscinated and confused by today's Pop Culture.
